Astrian Natural Living Field Trip — Grapes Gardening & Farming Experience
An awe-inspiring journey of holistic learning, divine reflection, and soulful connection.
Alhamdulillah, a deeply enriching and productive Astrian Natural Living Field Trip unfolded—connecting our young learners not just with nature, but with the Creator Himself through the marvel of grapes (العنب) as mentioned 11 times in the Noble Qur’an.
Exploring Grapes: A Divine Wonder
Our students immersed themselves in the world of grape cultivation—learning about:
Different varieties of grapes (colors, shapes, tastes).
The best conditions for growth: fertile soil, moderate climate.
Propagation methods and hands-on gardening experience.
Harvesting techniques and understanding post-harvest benefits.
They observed and reflected how Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Magnificent Creator, fashioned one fruit with endless colors, tastes, textures, sizes, and benefits.
Qur’anic Reflections on Grapes (عنب):
- Surah Yasin (36:34):
“And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused springs to gush forth within them.”
➤ Students recited this verse while seeing grapevines and fountains (abshar), connecting the revelation to their real-world observations.
- Surah An-Nahl (16:11):
“He causes crops to grow for you, and the olive tree, the date-palm, the grapevine, and all kinds of fruits…”
➤ Reflection: A reminder of Rizq (provision), sustenance, and gratitude.
- Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:19):
“And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.”
These verses were recited, reflected upon, and internalized by Astrians while they picked grapes, tasted their sweetness, and examined their seeds for medicinal properties.
Holistic Education Model – 5 Pillars of Development
1. Mind Development:
Learning horticulture, botany, and soil science.
Understanding chemistry behind grape nutrients.
Using mathematics to estimate yield, calculate cost, and design small business models.
Communication and language skills were nurtured through interactions with farmers and agriculture university experts.
2. Body Development:
Physical activity through digging, planting, harvesting.
Consumption of natural vitamins (C, K, antioxidants).
Natural sunlight, fresh air, spring water baths—enhancing immune health.
Hands-on fruit picking built muscle coordination and physical confidence.
3. Heart Development:
Developing care and empathy for farmers and earth.
Sharing fruits and water—building gratitude and generosity.
Encouraging teamwork and emotional bonding through group activities.
4. Soul Development:
Realizing the Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) through one fruit’s complex creation.
Learning submission to Allah’s will by reflecting on the verse:
“I am your Creator and Master; if you pass the test of this world, I shall reward you with eternal Jannah.”
Recognizing the temporality of this world and that real success is Akhira (Hereafter).
5. Spirit Development:
Zikr and recitation of Qur’an amidst nature.
Witnessing signs of Allah (Ayatullah) firsthand.
Awakening a sense of awe, humility, and spiritual awareness.
Astrian Entrepreneurial Spirit – Fruiteenpure Model
This journey wasn’t only about cultivation—it sparked entrepreneurial inspiration:
Students learned the value chain of fruit production.
Explored opportunities for organic juice, seed oils, and medicinal products.
Discussed small-scale models like “Fruiteenpure”: a student-led fruit business project.
They observed how natural living can lead to sustainable, halal, and ethical businesses, forming the roots of a purpose-driven entrepreneur—one who earns while benefiting society.
Collaborative Partnerships & Networking
Interaction with agricultural university departments, local horticulturists, and organic farmers.
Setting grounds for research, apprenticeships, and community projects.
Establishing long-term partnerships to integrate education with real-life projects.
This field trip was not just an outdoor activity—it was a sacred journey of Tarbiyah (nurturing). Witnessing a single fruit—grapes—reminded us of Allah’s mercy, creative mastery, and our role as stewards (khalifah) of this Earth.
“فَانظُرْ إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِ إِذَا أَثْمَرَ وَيَنْعِهِ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكُمْ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ”
“So observe the fruit when it yields and ripens. Surely in this are signs for those who believe.” (Surah Al-An’am 6:99)
